Privacy policy

Last updated 2026-09-03. HaystaQ is a small independent project run by AJ Langlois in the United States.

What HaystaQ is

HaystaQ helps you find something to watch across streaming services. Searching and browsing never require an account. If you choose to rate titles, mark them watched, hide them, or save which services you subscribe to, that information is stored against an account so it follows you between devices.

What we collect

Account details. If you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google. We use them to show who is signed in and to contact you if we ever need to. We never see your Google password.

Anonymous accounts. If you rate or save something without signing in, HaystaQ creates an anonymous account with no personal details so your activity is kept. You can later sign in with Google to attach it to you, or ignore it and it stays anonymous.

What you do in the app. Your ratings, watched and hidden titles, watchlist, and preferences such as your services and language settings.

Search text. When you type a description into the search box, that text is sent to OpenAI to turn it into a search vector. It is not tied to your account and we don't keep a log of searches.

Technical data. Standard web server logs (IP address, browser, pages requested) kept briefly by our hosting provider for security and debugging. No advertising trackers, no analytics that fingerprint you.

How we use it

To run the features you use: showing your ratings, hiding what you've watched, remembering your services, and improving recommendations for you. Ratings are also combined with everyone else's, anonymously and in aggregate, to improve the vibe scores shown for each title. We don't sell personal data, we don't show ads, and we don't share your individual activity with streaming services or anyone else.

Who we rely on

HaystaQ runs on Supabase (database and sign-in), Vercel (hosting) and GitHub (code and scheduled jobs). Catalog information comes from The Movie Database (TMDB) and JustWatch; streaming links from the Streaming Availability API; search embeddings from OpenAI. When you click a “Watch on” button you leave HaystaQ and that service's own privacy policy applies. Each of these companies only receives what it needs to provide its part of the service.

Cookies and local storage

A session cookie keeps you signed in. Your browser's local storage caches your watched/hidden list and preferences so the app feels fast; clearing site data removes it. There are no third-party cookies.

Your choices

You can sign out at any time. To delete your account and everything attached to it, email ajrocksmysocks988@gmail.com from the address you signed in with and it will be removed, including your ratings, within 30 days. Aggregate vibe scores that already incorporated your ratings can't be un-mixed, but they contain nothing that identifies you.

Children

HaystaQ is not directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top moves and, for signed-in users, we'll say so in the app. Questions: ajrocksmysocks988@gmail.com.
